A Spirit Airlines passenger jet will take off from McCarran International Airport on Thursday, January 28, 2021.

Several Spirit Airlines flights to Las Vegas and across the country have been canceled or delayed due to a number of “weather and operational challenges,” the Florida-based airline said today.

By 1 p.m., 12 of the 41 flights arriving at McCarran International Airport had been delayed and another 10 had been canceled. A total of 19 are supposed to arrive on time.

In contrast, 27 of Spirit’s 40 departing flights were on time, seven were delayed and six were canceled.

In a statement emailed, a Spirit spokesperson encouraged customers to monitor their emails and flight status before heading to the airport. All customers seeking help are invited to chat with an agent.

“We’re working around the clock to get back on track after a few weekend travel disruptions due to a number of weather and operational challenges,” Spirit spokesman Field Sutton wrote in the statement. “We had to proactively cancel some flights across the network, but most flights are still on schedule.”

McCarran officials advised passengers flying today and Tuesday to check Spirit’s website for details before leaving home. They called it a fluid situation.

Videos posted on social media showed that the line at the Spirit ticket booth in McCarran was dozens, if not hundreds, of people. And one user on Twitter who was traveling around Puerto Rico on Spirit wrote:

“When #spiritairlines leaves you stranded in Puerto Rico with no employees and holds your luggage and money hostage,” @ 2touchTito wrote.

The user continued, “We were stuck with no clothes or essentials for our 3 or 1 year olds overnight and still looking for flights with no answers.”
