Take That’s Las Vegas’ residence is “still in the pipeline”.
It was first rumored that the “Back For Good” hitmakers were hosting a series of concerts in Sin City in 2015, but it never came to fruition and although the coronavirus pandemic means it won’t happen any time soon, Gary Barlow has confirmed that there are still plans for him and his bandmates Mark Owen and Howard Donald are in the works to perform there regularly.
He told Music Week, “It’s still on the cards. [Covid-19] is a bit in the way because we wanted to do a little trial period, like six shows in a week. But we have the option of two hotels there and I think we can go there twice a year. It’s a possibility, but I think it’ll be a couple of years ago because right now it’s just not cool to ask people to travel that far. “
When the shows are booked, one person will likely be in the audience, the “massive fan” James Corden, who recently teamed up with Gary to duet “The King of Friend I Need” from the 50-year-old singer’s most recent solo album to sing ‘music played by people’.
Gary said of the Late Late Show host, “He was a huge Take That fan at school. The first time he came to see us with eight girls from his class at Wembley Arena and they were in the back row.
“When I first met him they were filming Gavin & Stacey in Wales. We were playing at Cardiff Millennium Stadium and he came up to us before the show and suddenly played a routine from ‘It Only Takes A Minute’. W.
“He hadn’t even played that song since ’92 or so, but he did it perfectly. I thought, ‘Wait a minute, you’re a huge fan of the band, aren’t you?’ He said, “Oh buddy, I know everything! I know every hand movement, every text … “
“We stayed in touch after that and we’ve gotten even closer since he moved to the States because I live there about three or four months a year, so I see a lot of him when I’m out there.”
