When the Flamingo opened in 1946 it was a great three day affair with celebrities and elites who came to Las Vegas to enjoy the most luxurious casino resort in town. If you’re looking to stand on a piece of the city’s great history – one that included showgirls, gangsters, movie stars, and more – then the Flamingo is a must. Although the hotel and casino have been modernized since its inception – it’s currently the oldest operating casino hotel on the Las Vegas Strip – you can still feel the history within its walls. (And, oh, if those walls could talk!) The Flamingo is a constant fun destination and has tons of convenience to offer when you’re on the property.

It’s no secret that RuPaul’s Drag Race has grown into a hit TV show – with everyone from family and friends to boyz and gurls sharing the joy of watching the competitive show. Fortunately for Las Vegas visitors, the Flamingo is home to the very first RuPaul’s Drag Race Live! Production show featuring many of the show’s most popular drag stars. While the show is a definite hot spot, real fans will want to stop by The Werk Room. It’s a shopping destination full of drag races and RuPaul. Shop for show items such as Anastasia Beverly Hills cosmetics, clothes featuring Mama Ru’s most famous sayings from the show, gifts and even RuPaul branded candy bars.
Bugsy & Meyers Steakhouse
Do you remember how we mentioned the flamingo mob story? Well, relive it, so to speak, with the kitschy entrance to the glamorous Bugsy & Meyer’s Steakhouse. While the venue is beautifully designed with different themed rooms for dining, one of the coolest features is access to the restaurant. You will come across a shop window and inside a “fake bakery”. The host must lead you through secret doors and paths to get into the restaurant – all of which are reminiscent of how the mob once entered the facilities. Menu highlights include the gorgeous premium seafood tower, a curated collection of dry and wet-aged steaks, braised Wagyu ribs, and a decadent chocolate and banana dessert with layers of banana bread, Devil’s Food cake, and milk chocolate mousse. Don’t miss the restaurant’s whisper bar – The Count Room, which combines historic decor with handcrafted cocktails.
Bird bar
While Flamingo has plenty of watering holes, we recommend stopping by Bird Bar. It’s a great place for people-watching as the spacious outdoor deck is right on Las Vegas Boulevard South – so a lot of that Sin City pedestrian traffic. It’s also a fun place for groups looking to get along with beer pong – multiple tables simply begging for a friendly game. Sip daily specials like buckets of five beers for $ 35. You can also get daiquiris and margaritas for $ 10 and $ 12, respectively, and signature cocktails for $ 12 in an updated Souvenir Flamingo Yard Cup for $ 26.
