Cone-shaped pizza dough filled with toppings is not a new invention, but the first southeast outlet to capitalize on the social media craze is already hugely popular.

Twisted Sourdough Pizza opened at the Silverado Center on Eastern Avenue, a few doors down from the temporarily closed Monta Chaya and next to Crêpe Expectations. The restaurant replaces Gama Bakery & Cakes and takes over its outdoor terrace.

Twisted Pizza gets its sourdough from a 50-year-old family starter who describes himself as “very airy, moist and crispy dough”. The restaurant saw long lines on the opening day for its menu of sourdough pies, wings, cannoli, and salads. The pizzeria’s regular cake menu includes mozzarella, hot peppers, spicy Latina and the lemon Italiano with a lemon vinaigrette dressing with rocket and tomatoes.

The big attraction is, of course, the collection of easy-to-walk and easy-to-eat pizza cones, roughly the size of a cone of waffles, which two people prepare at the same time in a molding machine. Ingredients include meat, cheese, and vegetables, plus salad options that include blue cheese, Italian, ranch, and Caesar salad. Vegan and vegetarian options are also on the menu.

Twisted Sourdough Pizza, 9500 S. Eastern Avenue, Suite 170, 702-331-9494. Open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
