What’s behind the secret doors of Las Vegas?

While the end of Prohibition made speakeasys obsolete, the allure of a hidden room accessible only with the right information has lingered some 88 years later. Of course, some aren’t that hidden: Secret Pizza at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas is about as inconspicuous as the queue that forms in front of it after a concert. The Mob Museum invites its guests to relive the jazz age at The Underground Speakeasy and Distillery. And although Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart in Area15 didn’t open until February, the grocery store’s fridge door, giving way to a surreal funhouse, can be found all over social media.

Nonetheless, some hidden doors in Las Vegas remain nondescript – or completely hidden – and still hold surprises. At least until it becomes known (thanks to us).

Here Kitty Kitty Vice Den

Between two food stalls in the famous Foods Street Food Hall at Resorts World Las Vegas is a small shop called Ms. Meow’s Mamak Stall. It sells a small selection of Asian newspapers and snacks. In the back of the shop there is a blue shelf that makes room when pushed in Here Kitty Kitty Vice.

The bar opened in June with a small space decorated with neon lights, Asian-inspired artwork, and a well-stocked bar. Cocktails include Berry Tales, a beautifully poured drink made with Belvedere blackberry lemongrass, crème de mûre, lemongrass, oolong tea, lime, and powder that tingles on the tongue. “The bar is tucked away, but it’s livelier than many other speakeasies,” said Will Cahow, vice president of the beverage division at Resorts World. “The general nature is that it is not known.” And even connoisseurs need a reservation to enter.

Gabi coffee and bakery

The entrance to Gabi Coffee and Bakery is only indicated by a heavy wooden door and a red sign that says “open”. While the Korean cafe is barely recognizable from the outside, the inside was instantly recognizable when it opened in 2018 thanks to its Instagram vibe, ornate greenhouse, and colorful desserts. Guests who find the right door in the mall on Spring Mountain Road can sit cross-legged on wooden stands and try delicacies such as ube-crpe cakes and yuzu-matcha macarons.

More taqueria and tequila, please

The front dining room of Mas Por Favor Taqueria y Tequila has casual seating for ordering street tacos. At the far corner of the dining room is a sliding door with a skull as a handle. Opening the door leads visitors through a dark tunnel into a rear lounge, above which two arches – one made of roses and one made of skulls – rise.

The lounge bar serves cocktails such as the jardin with blank tequila, cucumber, coriander, basil, mint, lime juice and prosecco, as well as dishes such as french fries and quesadillas.
